Anand has a legacy of entrepreneurship and development through its history of trade interactions with domestic and foreign agencies, leading to creative explorations reflected in the crafts of the region.
A pastoral cattle-herder legendarily lent his name to this territory called Anand which today is the District capital and home to India’s Milk Revolution. The district of Anand was formed from the bifurcation of Kheda district in 1997. Anand is a prosperous district blessed with ideal agricultural soil and is famous worldwide as the birthplace of the White Revolution and the formation of the first milk cooperative, Amul. Due to its proximity to Gujarat’s main city centers namely Ahmedabad and Baroda, there is a great deal of interaction and awareness coupled with the fact that in Anand almost every household has atleast one member settled abroad.
